Sombo Club And Martham Kick boxers attend

ASKO competition in Nottingham

On the Sunday 18 th Sept., some students from the Norfolk Sombo Association, together with some students from the Martham Dragons Kick Boxing club attended the ASKO Championships in Nottingham. It was the first time that this mixed martial arts competition day had been arranged by the ASKO club who train in many forms of martial arts, Including judo and kick boxing.

The event was attended by over 150 competitors, who competed in one of the three competitions that were running side by side in the sports hall. The Martham Kick boxers competed in the Semi - contact points competition (held on a mat area) and the Light Continuous competition, which was held in a boxing ring. The Sombo students all competed in the Ground grappling competition, which was also held on a mat area, under Sombo rules.

The following medals were collected by the combined clubs each in their own categories

Kick boxing - Continous (Ring)

Jack Holmes (Junior section) - Bronze medal

Kick boxing - Points competition

Gemma Watson (Girls Youth section) - Silver Medal

Jake Dowe (Boys Youth section) - Bronze medal

Special mention should also go to both Jon Heales and club instructor Paul Holmes, who both had

very hard fights in the Senior competitions, in their weight groups, but both were unplaced.

Daniel Storer (boys group 1) - Gold medal

Wayne Sharman (youth boys 1) - Silver medal

Alex Maughan (youth boys 2) - Bronze medal

Rhett Milton (youth boys 3) - Gold medal

Sam Lawson (youth boys 4) - Gold medal

Martine Clark (Youth Girls) - Silver medal

Graham Mann (Senior Veterans Group) - Bronze medal

Special mentions should also go to Chris Gath, Ben Lawson and Daniela Balls, who all had several hard fights in their competitions in their weight groups, but were also unplaced in the medals

The Event Organizer Jason Dorn said "it was really good to see the group from Norfolk, when they arrived, at this, our first large event, The ASKO club had attended a competition in Martham, earlier in the year, and Graham said he would bring some people up to Nottingham and help support the competitions, which we now plan to make an annual event"

Club organizer, Graham Mann said that all the students, should be proud of their efforts in their respective competitions and would also like to thank the mums and dads and the other team members, who came along to help make sure everything went smoothly, on what was a very long but enjoyable, day trip to Nottingham.
