Gorleston Self Defence Club Enters National Competition
On Sunday the 28 th September, the O-Yama-Ryu Goshin Jitsu Martial Arts Club and the Bradwell All Styles Martial Arts, had a team of students entered in the South East Of England National Sombo Championships, which was held in Bournemouth. Attending this competition were established Sombo wrestling teams and clubs from Bournemouth, Eastbourne , Essex and a team from Cherbourg in France. This was the clubs first entry in this style of competition, All the students had a successful trip bringing back a collection of medals and even took the third place team trophy.
The following medals were won by our Junior competitors :-
Boys Group B - Craig Coulam - Gold
Boys Group C - Spencer Webster - Silver & Oliver Marsden-Hill - Bronze
Boys Group D - Chris Gath - Bronze
Boys Group E - Sam Lawson - Bronze
Boys Group F - Daniel Storer - Bronze
Girls Group B - Martine Clark - Silver
Girls Group C - Samantha Clayton - Bronze
Youths Under 52 kg - Adam Emons - Gold
Youths Under 77kg - Ben Lawson - Silver
Ladies Group - Nicola Coulam - Bronze
Seniors Group - Graham Mann - Silver
A special mention should also go to Robert Brown who was entered in the largest group of the senior men's competition where he finished in a very creditable fourth place. The Competition was attended by the National Cambo Coach, Mr. Tim Thomas, who said he was very pleased to see the Norfolk youngsters taking part in a national competition and the high standard which was shown by all the students against very good opposition.
The clubs leaders Graham , Nicola & Robert would like to congratulate all who took part in this the first of what hopefully will be many trips to compete in these types of competition and would also like to thank the national Sombo coach Tim Thomas, for his help and extra training sessions, which assisted us in collecting these medals. The team would also like to thank Gary Webster for driving the Mini-Bus to and from Bournemouth , and getting us all home safely.
