Gorleston Self Defence Club Holds Charity Training Day
On Sunday 12 th October, the O-Yama-Ryu Goshin Jitsu Martial Arts Clubs, hosted their Annual Charity training seminar, This year it was held at the Church Lane Community Centre in Gorleston. The days training schedule was arranged by Shihan Kevin Garwood to showcase a variety of local martial arts clubs and styles.
Every year the club holds a training event aimed at raising some funds for a local worthy charities and this years event was to raise some funds for the local “Gorleston & Gt. Yarmouth Arthritis Club”.
The event featured training sessions taken by the following instructors :-
Sensei Oliver Garwood in Goshin Jitsu (from Gorleston)
Sensei Dave Redding in Tomiki Aikido (from Norwich)
Renshi Steve Garrod & Sensei Steve St Clair in Ju Jitsu (from Lowestoft)
Sensei Kantu Patel in Shukokai Karate (from Beccles)
Sensei Jon Heales in Goshin Karate (from Gorleston)
After a very good days training Shihan Kevin Garwood thanked all of the students who attended for their hard work during the day, he also thanked all of the Senior instructors and their Uke’s for giving their time free of charge and the Church lane Committee for providing the venue free of charge, which meant that all the money raised on the day would go straight to the Charity. All the students were also presented with a certificate of attendance, which were supplied by Dabbrook Services Ltd.
At the end of the day’s training the raised £ 170.00 , which was presented to the Chair of the Arthritis club,
Mr. George Simmons, by the three youngest students training on the day, which were Jordan Casey, Jake & Brandon Yallop from the Shukokai Karate Club in Beccles

Mr George Simmons , who watched the later training session said that he was very grateful to receive the clubs donation and he had enjoyed watching the students going through their paces. Shihan Garwood thanked the students who had attended and hoped that they all had enjoyed the day as much as he had and that they all had a safe journey home.
