Gorleston Self Defence Club Hosts Master Class Seminars By Dutch Masters

Over the weekend of Saturday 2nd and Sunday the 3rd September , the O-Yama-Ryu Goshin Jitsu Martial Arts Club, held a very special seminar, At the Nile Road Community Centre. In Gorleston, when we hosted a two day seminar with a special guest Instructor, from the Netherlands, Jan Muilwijk , who together with his uke Ad Zijlmans , took two days of excellent sports Judo and a long lost Kata style.

On the Saturday , the day was split into two sessions with the morning session basically re-working some basic throwing techniques with their own style, and seamlessly linking the throws into a series of continuous techniques. After a break for lunch the students then had an afternoon of ground work techniques, which were also linked with a common theme. At the end of both sessions the students were allowed to have an open Randori session in which they could try out the techniques they had seen during the day. With Jan and Ad personally correcting any little faults they may have seen. The training sessions were from 10.ooam until 4 in the afternoon with a break for lunch.

On the Sunday training sessions was the Hi light of the week-ends training routines with Jan performing his reconstruction of a long lost Kata routine . Known as Go No Kata, this old form of Kata brings together the Judo and Karate teachings of the father of Judo Jigoro Kano and the Karate Master Gichin Funakoshi. Jan has just published a book on the kata and the Kata is being evaluated by many senior organisations worldwide including the home of judo, the Kodokan in Japan.
