Gorleston Self Defence Club Hosts Special Seminar
On Sunday the 21st of October, the O-Yama-Ryu Goshin Jitsu Martial Arts Club, held the latest in a series of special training seminars, where they invite a Senior Instructor from another association to hold an open training seminar. The seminar was held at the Church Lane Community Centre, (opposite the Sixth form college) in Gorleston. The senior instructor on this occasion was Shihan Gordon Lawson (6th Dan) from the Radcliffe Zen Judo Club, which is affiliated to the British Zen Judo Family Association, and based in Nottingham.
The attending group of students were treated to an excellent days training. During the morning in one of the BZJFA kata, which was a ground work kata, which can be used as a full kata or a training aid, depending on the student’s abilities.
In the afternoon training session, the emphasis was moved to the Ju No Kata , which is a kata from the Kodokan training syllabus.
All the students had a fantastic days training and instruction by both Shihan Lawson and his Uke Anne.
Shihan Kevin Garwood said that it was a great pleasure to have this seminar and see our students being able to show some new variations in self defense, which the attending students can now demonstrate to our owns clubs and further enhance the clubs basic syllabus, and he hoped that all who took part in the training enjoyed trying something a little bit different from the normal classes. In many ways the O Yama Ryu and Shihan Lawson’s club share many similarities in style and syllabus and will liaise again in holding more seminars, which hopefully will attract more students.
